Coordinators Call To Action

Dear Resident,

In the spirit of community safety and keeping people safe we continue to cascade important information regarding the forthcoming digital switchover. As you may already be aware landlines are changing, and the UK’s telephone network is moving to digital. By January 2027, the old analogue network will be completely switched off and replaced by new digital landlines which will work using broadband. It is important that we help support members of our communities, especially the more vulnerable, to ensure that they are not adversely impacted by the switch off deadline as best we can.

We have taken the liberty of using the Neighbourhood Alert system to reach out to all coordinators in the hope that you will join us in spreading the word of two campaigns underway that focus on the vulnerable members of our communities:

  • The ‘National Telecare’ campaign relates to customers that use a telecare device such as personal alarms, pendant alarms, lifeline devices and home care monitoring systems. It is important that they take action to ensure that their equipment is compatible with the new digital technology. While many modern telecare systems are designed to work with both traditional and digital landlines, older models may require upgrades or replacements. Users should be encouraged to contact their landline provider for support as soon as possible. Further information is available at:  Digital Phone Switchover
  • The BT Connected-Together campaign encourages friends, family, colleagues, neighbours to help support vulnerable members of the community through the switch and helping them to understand why it is happening, and how to prepare. The BT website can be found here: Connected Together - All-IP - About BT | BT Plc
  • Anyone who needs extra support to make the switch to Digital Voice, should register for this using the BT webform. An engineer will then be made available to assist them with transition. The BT guide is available here: A guide to Digital Voice

Webinar Support Sessions

BT have kindly offered to carry out an awareness session online for our volunteer coordinators

  • Tuesday 9th September 2025 from 1830-1930 hours
  • Wednesday 10th September 2025 from 1200 - 1300 hours

This will be an opportunity for you to learn more about both campaigns and meet the NWS team. We hope to see you there.

Please share this information amongst your neighbours, friends, family and work colleagues and through your own channels e.g. WhatsApp, social media / Facebook, websites etc. Maybe even consider a safe and well check / local walkabout to spread the word to any elderly / potentially vulnerable people in your community; or drop leaflets at local community centres, religious establishments, libraries, shops and cafes.

Thank you for your contribution as part of the NWS family and helping us to promote neighbourliness. By working together, we can achieve much more – in keeping with our vision of ‘Safer Neighbourhoods, Stronger Communities.’

Best wishes your NWS team.
